USA: Corey Christiansen -Dusk(2017)

Dusk
The third in guitarist Corey Christiansen's trilogy of albums exploring the grounds between jazz, blues and Americana, is focused on his original compositions - tunes written for people in his life, places been, characters imagined, landscapes seen and the captured feelings from those experiences. The rapport within his longtime band is at its most evolved and empathetic, while Christiansen's already prodigious guitar work has found the fluidity and emotive qualities only obtained through their continued collective focus and dedication to concept.
Review

'Supported by a responsive rhythm section, alternately supple and clangorous, (Christiansen & Lapidus) imbue the Christiansen tunes with soulful lyricism to spare. ' --- JazzTimes

Jazz at the Maverick presents the CMS Improvisers Octet, exploring themes from some of Don Cherry’s visionary recordings as well as pieces by other composers that follow his lead into “world fusion.” The ensemble’s “In the Spirit of Don Cherry” performance will use pieces from these materials as launching pads for improvised interpretations that weave together jazz, world music and contemporary music.

The ensemble features musicians who played with Cherry including Karl Berger (piano, vibes, leader), Bob Stewart (tuba), Steven Bernstein (trumpet), Peter Apfelbaum (reeds, percussion), Graham Haynes (cornet), Ingrid Sertso (vocals); along with Adam Lane (bass) and Tani Tabbal (drums).

About Don Cherry
Noted for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, which began in the late 1950s, Don Cherry became a pioneer of world-fusion music in the 1960s. During this period, he incorporated various ethnic styles into his playing and composing. Cherry, who died in 1995, was essential to the creation and development of the Creative Music Studio™.  He inspired many of its methodologies, taught many CMS workshops and founded his legendary group, Codona, at CMS. A suite of his is included in CMS Archive Project Selections Vol. 2, released last year.

He's Bringin' It
September 22, 2017 on Vinyl and CD

Iconic bassist Christian McBride has been doing what the title of his upcoming big band album implores for years: Bringin' It. This highly anticipated release, which follows the Christian McBride Big Band's 2011 Grammy® Award-winning debut, The Good Feeling, puts his status and skills as an all-around entertainer on full display. With a list of growing accolades including his recent appointment as Artistic Director at the Newport Jazz Festival, hosting shows on SiriusXM ("The Lowdown: Conversations with Christian") and NPR ("Jazz Night in America") as well as frequent online contributions to various programs including "All Things Considered"), speaking engagements, and occasional DJ performances under the alias DJ Brother Mister, he's more than just a bandleader: Christian McBride is transcending that title to something more complete.

                                                                         CAM JAZZ
new music release:

Bruce Harris "Beginnings"

A stellar debut from the magnificent trumpet player.

Today is the worldwide release of the new album by Bruce Harris, featuring many veterans on the NYC jazz scene. Thanks for listening!
Bells are ringing when Bruce Harris and his trumpet hit the ground running right from the opening salvo on his aptly entitled debut release “Beginnings.” Indeed, Harris pushes his melodic message to the forefront with skillful leadership, while he ably demonstrates a total command of his own instrument. Also featured on the album are several of NYC’s top saxophonists, including Grant Stewart, Andy Farber, Jerry Weldon, Frank Basile and Dmitry Baevsky. They are supported by the capable rhythm section of pianist Michael Weiss, bassist Clovis Nicolas, and drummer Pete Van Nostrand. With an amazing combination of talents, some brilliant performances, and an evocative program of music, critical listeners should agree that “Beginnings” travels steadily straight forward and shines with bright moments to successfully proclaim Bruce Harris as an important and emerging new voice in jazz.
